The Miracle of ARGAN Oil!

Organic Cold Pressed Argan Oil!

Organic Cold Pressed Argan Oil!

During these winter months, we LOVE to stay warm and hydrated in every way possible!  Hot mulled apple cider, freshly baked pumpkin muffins and warm and hearty stews are just a few ways we love “DO” winter! We’ve found another way to stay hydrated is to lock in moisture in your skin, and doing so without chemicals is nearly impossible! So we’ve found a product that we had to share with you to keep you looking and feeling LUXURIOUS { as you know by now, that’s our thing! }

It’s Argan Oil!

Not just ANY Argan oil, but cold pressed and certified organic Argan oil! Some of the reasons why we love this particular brand is because:

1.)It’s purchased from women’s cooperatives in Morocco to support their social and economic welfare!

2.) It restores shine and softness to hair and skin!

3.) AND it’s a rich source of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids – a “super food” for the skin and hair!

We especially love it for split ends!

Cheers, Trèsors De Luxe { A LUXE Jewelry Co. }

{ Dark CHOCOLATE 101 }

While those heart-shaped boxes of milky, cream-filled bonbons don’t qualify, recent studies show that pure dark chocolate is actually really, really good for you! That doesn’t mean you should stack a massive supply next to the remote control and settle in for the winter, but wouldn’t that be FUN!?!  But in moderation, you can enjoy the glorious taste of dark chocolate guilt-free.

LOOK FOR…

Appearance High-quality dark chocolate should have a high-gloss sheen, not a “bloomed” (blotchy, almost dusty) look.

Feel Because it starts to soften at about 97 degrees, good chocolate should melt in your hand.

Sound You should hear a solid snap when you crack off the corner of the bar, proof that it was tempered (or melted and cooled to the desired crystal structure) properly

Enjoy these irresistable selections…XO ~ Tresors De Luxe

Edible Candy Rings! { D.I.Y. }

These colorful and delicious candy rings are perfect for bridal showers or birthdays!

Arent’t these almost too pretty to eat?!?  We had to show you how easy it is to make these sparkly and vibrant candy jewels, and inpress your friends and family!  They’re a great addition to any birthday, holiday or celebration! Now, many of these rings were made by the Escriba bakery in Barcelona, Spain (escriba.es; to find an American source, e-mail the bakery at richard@escriba.es). But we created some of them — the two pink clusters and the “diamond” solitaires.

To make them yourself, follow these steps!

Rock-Candy Ring

Tools and Supplies

  • Pink or white gumball (each ring uses only half a gumball)
  • Scissors or sharp kitchen knife
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Ring blank with glue-on surface (tohoshoji-ny.com)
  • Dryden & Palmer cherry rock-candy crystals (rockcandy.com)
  • Multipurpose glue with a fine applicator tip (we used Deco Princess Multi Purpose Glue, tohoshoji-ny.com)

Basic How-To:

1. For each ring, cut a gumball in half with a sharp kitchen knife. Hot-glue the underside of a gumball half to a ring blank, and let the glue set.

2. Place some of the rock-candy crystals in a small, shallow disk. Apply the multipurpose glue to the gumball dome. Press the tacky surface into the rock crystals so some stick to the gumball. Then fill in any gaps by applying glue to the bottoms of crystals and setting them in place.

“Diamond” Solitaire Rings

Tools and Supplies

Basic How-To:

Apply a tiny drop of the glue to the underside of the cake jewel. Adhere it to the cup on the ring blank, and let the glue set.

“Pearl” Ring

Tools and Supplies

  • Light-pink gumball (each ring uses half a gumball)
  • Scissors or sharp kitchen knife
  • Ring blank with glue-on surface (FGR-D, $1.50 each; tohoshoji-ny.com)
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Pink sugar pearls (ours are from Fancy Flours, $6.50; fancyflours.com)
  • Multipurpose glue with a fine applicator tip (we used Deco Princess Multi Purpose Glue, $7; tohoshoji-ny.com)

Basic How-To

1. For each ring, cut a gumball in half with a sharp knife. Hot-glue the underside of a gumball half to a ring blank, and let the glue set.

2. Apply the multi-purpose glue to a small section on the top of the gumball dome, and adhere sugar pearls, sliding them tightly together. Hold them in place until the glue has mostly set. Repeat the process to cover other sections of the gumball.

We hope you’ll have just as much fun making these beautiful candy treasures as we did!

Our Featured Blogger { This French Farmhouse }

We are thrilled to bring you our newest featured blogger for August!  We are pretty confident you’ll be swept away by all the little goodies, just like we are…

Mini Coconut Cheesecake!

I started being creative as soon as I could hold a pencil, spatula or a pair of scissors in my hand (which was not easy seeing as I am left handed and the world is out to get me.) I made mock magazines, took photos and stood on a stepstool to make homemade donuts.  As I grew up I became increasingly interested in the visual arts, eventually went to school for graphic design and now own my own studio, Pixel Soup Creative. But, when I am not designing logos, I am taking photos and blogging about my life in Redmond at www.ThisFrenchFarmhouse.com

Bedroom treasures…

My blog is made up of the  the things I love, the things that inspire me, and the things that I’ll remember 50 years from now.

Amalfi, Italy

Grilled artichoke…delicious

I share this life with Justin, my best friend and husband, and our sweet and smiley baby boy, Sage Michael. Our family is also composed of chocolate labs Huck and Chili and chickens Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. We love to work on projects together and travel the world.

First there is the house…

We live in Redmond, Washington – about 20 minutes east of Seattle. Our craftsman cottage was built in 1947 and sits in the middle of a country acre. It’s a lot of work, but we have never had more fun making a house a home. Since we bought in 2009, Justin and I have worked together to bring the property back to its former glory and rejuvenate the country setting with a lived in, yet refined French Farmhouse style. Give me three shades of white paint and some 220 grit sandpaper and I’ll shabby chic the car if you’ll let me. We jokingly refer to it as the “Shanda Foisy Signature Farmhouse Finish.”

My bedroom…

Then there is the food…

I started cooking with my mom as soon as I could stand. Years of making homemade breads, curries and learning to brine a chicken prepared me to work as an apprentice pastry chef under Julie Hoagle during high school. While everyone else was in after school sports practice – I was furiously trying to perfect the ‘airiness” of my Madeline Cookies. I seriously considered culinary school, but in the end decided that the hours and lifestyle of being a chef were not for me. While design helps pay the bills, cooking is still my passion. When I’m not working in my studio or on the house, you will find me in the kitchen; cooking, styling and photographing (I’m still learning!), and most importantly, eating with my family.

and the Arts and Crafts…

I try to squeeze in as much creative time as I can, but the days seem to go by much faster now that we have a child. Although I’m not opposed to putting the baby in the front pack while I paint a picture or wander through a flea market looking for things to re-purpose. I do my best to make home-made gifts for Justin and our family. At the end of the year we like to give “Our Box of Favorite Things.” It is usually made up of mostly cheese and alcohol, but our family doesn’t seem to mind.
