farrell’s.

As a child, it’s where you wanted to be. If your birthday was right around the corner, Farrell’s was your one-stop shop destination for fun, food and festivities! If you wanted the best banana split in town, Farrell’s was the place. The concept was simple. An old-fashioned themed ice cream parlor that offered family-friendly environment AND something called, The Kitchen Sink, that included every flavor of ice cream, every topping with chopped nuts, whipped cream and maraschino cherries! Although we never tried it, we were still thrilled with our hot fudge sundae with extra whipped cream.

If one of your parents happened to hand you a few dollars to shop in the candy store, near the register, you’d be in luck. They had every type of taffy, multi-colored candy dots, lollipops and barrels of old fashioned style sweets. We usually opted for the strawberry taffy wrapped in wax paper, sweet and a bit tart. So good!

The incredibly happy memories created there will last a lifetime. Knowing the value of creating special memories is a game changer and making each celebration count truly has been and will always be a top priority on our list.

Was there a special place you would celebrate your birthdays?

We’re going to let this interview speak for itself other than to say these two women paved the way for so many that came after them.

Thank you ladies!

Years ago, a great man gave us a wealth of information in regards to relationships. He said that if you can count your best friends on one hand, consider yourself extremely lucky, and if you can count them on both hands, you’re truly blessed. At that time, it made sense, but now more that ever, it rings crystal clear.

Friends can instantly feel like home and become a second family without skipping a beat. We’ve been lucky to find incredible friends who have become family over the years. When you find your group or circle, you know it. You then have sisters and brothers you didn’t have before. The common thread can be any number of things, but for us, it’s simple, it’s LOVE.

The absolute bliss of a freshly made bagel, right out of the oven, is nothing short of a miracle. This is a yeast-free, high protein, simplified version of just that. With a few simple ingredients, you can enjoy homemade bagels in the comfort of your own home in a matter of 45 minutes!

Here we go…

Ingredients

  • 125 grams (1 cup) self rising flour
  • 237 grams (1 cup) non-fat or whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • everything bagel seasoning, coarse salt, sesame seeds, etc. optional toppings

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • To a medium mixing bowl, add the flour and greek yogurt. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to stir together until nearly combined. It will be crumbly.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and add the dough, kneading together mostly fully combined. Don’t overwork it, it will be sticky and crumbly.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal balls and gently shape each into a rope, then connect to ends, stretching slightly to shape into a bagel. Lay each onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • To a small bowl, use a fork to whisk the egg. Use a pastry brush to brush both sides of the bagels.
  • Sprinkle with your choice of seasonings and bake for 25 minutes: everything bagel seasoning, coarse salt, sesame seeds, etc.
  • Let cool for at least 15 minutes and then slice and enjoy.
  • Toast for a crispier crust!

Topping Options:

  • Everything Bagel Seasoning
  • Coarse Celtic Salt
  • Poppy Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Shredded Cheese

Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 3 days!

separates.

Basics. It’s all about starting with great quality, versatile pieces. You can literally pull a look together in a matter of minutes when you have the right options in front of you. What we look for is mostly neutral pieces and a pop of style with a chic Bohemian style scarf and/or silver accessories.

We have a few looks featured here that accomplish most of what we look for during the warmer months. “Bermuda” shorts are key when it comes to looking pulled together, but it does depend on your height, so we like them to land approximately four fingers above the knee. Any well-made short that lands right on your body type is a winner in our book. Paired with a cotton tank top or tee, a lightweight blouse, just in case there’s a cool breeze that comes out of nowhere, and a few timeless accessories that pull the entire look together. We’ll go into that in another post, and we’ll feature all our favorite pieces!

Keeping a variety of fresh-looking, stylish separates in your closet saves you time and energy and lets you focus on what’s important, living your life to the fullest!

Style tip: Keep an extra pair of comfortable shoes in the car. Stylish tennis shoes, sandals, wedges, etc. Don’t ask. You’ll thank us later!

tuesday.

This morning’s coffee was better than usual. It was actually fabulous. So much of it depends on the freshness of the beans, the type of water and the batch of almonds used to make the “milk.” Speaking of almond milk, we made a fresh batch of it the other day, and it knocked our socks off. To begin with, the fresh, organic, raw almonds that we used were incredibly sweet and gave us this creamy, rich, delicious almond milk that turned out better than other times before. It’s a combination of everything lining up perfectly to give you the perfect result! Those are the days for us when the stars are in alignment and all is well in our world.

Ironically, it’s the little things in life that can mean SO much, although we’re always appreciative of the big things too. It’s important to recognize all the things that DO go right in a day, week, month and year. It’s really easy to remember all the things that didn’t go right, so focusing in the GOOD is vital. Absolutely VITAL. When you add up all the positives, you might just surprise yourself.

sunnies.

Recently, when attending a vintage trunk show, we came across some fabulous glasses that were in EXCELLENT condition. We loved the rose colored-bakelite frames and pointed-edged shapes. They were a vibe! The fact that someone had taken such good care of them was such a delight to see. Bravo! Of course, the quality also had something to do with it. They don’t make them like they used to anymore!

When you find something you really love, whatever it may be, and take great care of it, handling it with care, you’ll have it for years. Like the wool cape/coat we found at an estate sale years ago. Wool is notorious for attracting moths. This coat was in perfect condition because the woman who previously owned it wore it often, but she had a special, protective bag she kept it in that kept it looking brand new!

Today, we’re pulling out a pair of vintage shades and wearing them with pride, knowing they’re in good hands, being handled with care.

Polka dots are one of 2024’s biggest prints, having been given a sophisticated and elegant update for the season ahead! What polka dot trends are poppin’ this year? Expect to see neutral-colored dots on a darker background (specifically, white polka dots) and classic cuts with polka dot designs. Think polka dot blouses, dresses, or pants in classic silhouettes. We’re featuring some our favorites here!

Fun fact: The eye-popping pattern gets its name from the polka music craze that engulfed Europe in the mid-1800s.
